Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using Accord, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the service.
Use of the Service
Accord provides a platform for coordinating collective commitments. You may use the service to:
- Create accords that describe a collective commitment and threshold
- Join accords by submitting your email and commitment
- Share accords with your community
- Monitor progress toward commitment thresholds
You may not use Accord to facilitate illegal activity, harassment, fraud, or any commitment that violates applicable laws.
The Accord Mechanism
Accord's core mechanism is a conditional commitment: your commitment only activates if the stated threshold is reached by the deadline.
When a threshold is reached:
- All verified commitments activate simultaneously
- All participants are notified by email
- Financial deposits (if configured) are authorized at that moment
If the threshold is not reached by the deadline, all commitments expire automatically and no obligations are created. Financial deposits are never captured in this case.
Important: While Accord facilitates the coordination mechanism, we are not a party to any commitments made on the platform. The moral and practical obligation to follow through rests with participants. Accord is a coordination tool, not an enforcement body.
Financial Deposits
Some accords may require a financial deposit as part of the commitment. By submitting a payment method for a deposit:
- Your payment method is authorized (not charged) at commitment time
- The authorization is captured only if the threshold is reached
- If the threshold is not reached, the authorization is released
- Accord is not responsible for disputes between accord creators and participants regarding deposit terms
All payment processing is handled by Stripe. By using payment features you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service.
Accord Creator Responsibilities
If you create an accord, you are responsible for:
- Ensuring the commitment text is accurate and achievable
- Setting a realistic threshold and deadline
- Not creating accords for illegal, harmful, or deceptive purposes
- Any financial deposit terms you configure for participants
Accord reserves the right to remove accords that violate these terms or our community guidelines.
Prohibited Uses
You may not use Accord to:
- Facilitate illegal activity or violate any laws
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users
- Create fraudulent or deceptive accords
- Submit fake commitments or manipulate threshold counts
- Collect personal data from other users without consent
- Interfere with the proper working of the service
Intellectual Property
The Accord platform, including its design, code, and branding, is the property of Accord. You retain ownership of any content you submit (commitment text, accord descriptions) and grant Accord a license to display it on the platform.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Accord is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the reliability, accuracy, or availability of the service. We do not guarantee that commitments will be fulfilled by participants — Accord is a coordination tool, not an enforcement mechanism.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Accord shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to loss of data, unfulfilled commitments, or financial loss resulting from participation in an accord.
Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes by posting the new terms on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
